Skin is deep

My desire is to create an image that tells you who you are. How does love look when it runs through you? How do you look when you’re being touched by a lover? How do excitement, reflection, curiosity and passion change the contours of your face and body?

We are so much more than the reflection we see in the mirror, so much more than the parts we split ourselves into in order to criticize or praise various aspects of our physical bodies. What we find hard to see is how the presence of divinity and love and all our passions look when we are not observing ourselves. This is the unique beauty that I find and photograph.

The person that chooses me for their portrait photographer is someone who wants to reveal themselves rather than to hide themselves. Revealing is a natural unfolding that takes place in the portrait session. It starts with nervousness, shyness, an anxiety about looking a certain way, or worrying that a bit of fleshiness or wrinkles will be exposed, but then at some point, and usually early on, those feelings fall away. Almost magically, everyone finds a place in them selves that is familiar, and where they feel comfortable to unfold and reveal what is usually hidden from others and often from themselves as well. Sometimes the person wants a partially or fully clothed portrait, while others want to be completely naked and sensual or more erotic and sexual. As with all my portrait work – anything goes as long as it is loving and not harmful.
